How skills are matched
A skill is a short file of guidance. When your request matches a skill, the assistant adds that skill to its instructions for the request.
Where skills live
- Shipped skills come with the app. See Shipped skills.
- Your own skills are files in
~/.officelabs/skills/, in one folder per application (Writer, Calc, Impress). On macOS and Linux the folder is restricted to your account when the app creates it. See Write your own skills.
What the assistant reads from a skill file
From the top of the file, it reads name, description and triggers. The triggers are one comma-separated line. Other keys are ignored.
How a match is chosen
- Your own skills are checked first.
- A trigger matches when it appears in your request, ignoring upper and lower case. If several triggers match, the longest one wins.
- If none of your skills match, the shipped skills for Writer and Impress are checked in order and the first match wins. In Calc, a shipped skill is added only when the request reads as financial work.
- The text of the winning skill is added to the instructions for that request.
At most one skill is added per request.
