About the unsigned installer
This alpha is not code-signed yet. When you run OfficeLabs-Setup.exe, Windows SmartScreen will show "Windows protected your PC" because the publisher isn't verified. This is expected for the current alpha:
- Select More info on the SmartScreen dialog.
- Select Run anyway.
Only run this if you're comfortable installing unsigned preview software. Production releases will be signed.
Install
- Run
OfficeLabs-Setup.exeand get past the SmartScreen warning above. - Accept the UAC prompt — the installer needs administrator rights to write to
C:\Program Files\OfficeLabsand to the registry. - Work through the installer pages: license, components (core files, file associations for
.odt/.ods/.odp/.odg/.odf, desktop shortcut, Start menu shortcut), and install location. - The installer installs the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime it needs, then copies the application.
- Launch OfficeLabs from the Start menu or the desktop shortcut it created.
If a security scanner is holding a file open (for example during a reinstall over a running copy), the install can fail — see Troubleshooting.
